Sam Miltich at the Edge Center on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 7 p.m.
"Miletići: New Music From The Old Country" is Sam Miltich's newest musical project. The name Miletići is the plural of Sam and Matthew Miltich's traditional Croatian last name Miletic', and the name of the village where Matthew's father was raised as a child.
This new ensemble focuses on music from Dalmatia, The Balkans, and the broader Eastern and Central European region. The band draws their repertoire from traditional Tamburitza and Romani Cocek music from the Balkans, Klapa music from Dalmatia, and Jewish Klezmer and traditional Slavic folk songs from Central and Eastern Europe.
The band is composed of Sam Miltich as the leader playing both guitar, tamburitza, and vocals, Matthew Miltich on upright bass and vocals, Gary Schulte on violin, Mark Kreitzer on mandolin and guitar, and Tony Balluff on clarinet. What sets this ensemble apart from other traditional folk ensembles is that all of the band members are full time jazz musicians. Miletici puts new twists on old music by infusing the band's love of improvisation into traditional music. You may hear Klezmer songs played in a swing rhythm, or open improvised solo sections on a Romani Cocek from Macedonia. It is this spirit of improvisational exploration that truly sets this ensemble apart.
We hope you will join us and enjoy a new modern take on traditional classics from the eastern half of Europe.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children and are available at the door. The Edge Center is located at 101 2nd Avenue, Bigfork, MN. For more information, call 218-743-6670, or email holly@edgecenterarts.org.

Join the Minnesota Humanities Center, Danger Boat Productions, and Edge Center for the Arts for the Sketches of Minnesota civic improv comedy tour! These free events use laughter and comedy to celebrate Minnesota communities, promote dialogue, bridge divides, and help find ways to work constructively across differences in today’s political environment.
Beginning with a catered meal, these gatherings invite audience members to share what makes their town great, what they think people get wrong about it, what local divisions concern them, and what future they imagine. An improv comedy troupe listens in on the conversations, takes everything they heard from residents, and brings it to life on stage through entirely unscripted improv comedy theater.

On Saturday, August 16 at 7 p.m., Third Coast Chamber Collective (TCCC) and guest artists will present the opening concert of the 5th edition of TCCC’s chamber music festival in Northern Minnesota titled “It Takes Five”. The program features single movements from piano and string quintets in a beautiful journey through the quintet repertoire. For this concert, the TCCC’s core members Evgeny Zvonnikov, Pedro Oviedo, and Magdalena Sas will be joined by violinist Irina Mueller, pianist Satoko Hayami and cellist James Rosamilia. The repertoire features works by women composers Grazyna Bacewicz, Amy Beach and Ethel Smyth and will be concluded with Franz Schubert’s famous and beloved string quintet for 2 violins, viola and 2 cellos.
We are thrilled to welcome Satoko and James back to our community for TCCC’s celebratory “It Takes Five” festival. Both artists were part of TCCC’s Adult Chamber Music Retreat in June and have been featured on previous TCCC concerts. Japanese pianist Satoko Hayami concertizes worldwide and currently is on faculty at the Osaka University of Tourism in Japan. A native of Minnesota, James Rosamilia, actively performs as chamber musician alongside his career as a recording engineer and regularly plays with the Itasca Orchestra. TCCC would like to thank our “It takes Five” festival sponsors and partners: Arrowhead Regional Art Council, Loggy Dome, Kiesler Center, Edge Center for the Arts, and the Itasca Orchestra.
If you would like to join in the celebration and support “It Takes Five” and TCCC’s future music programming in our community, you can do so by dedicating a work on these concerts to the memory of a loved one. Your dedication will be printed in the festival programs to commemorate the impact of someone special in your life and you will receive a recording of the dedicated piece. For information on dedicating a work, please visit www.thirdcoastchambercollective.com

A juried art show is organized in a time-honored way. An independent juror is chosen because of their involvement in the visual arts—either as a working artist, a gallery or museum curator, an art teacher, or all of the above. The juror is paid to select from submitted artwork, the pieces they think are the strongest. Inevitably, some submitted pieces are rejected. The local gallery committee has no input in selection or awards, and the juror’s decisions are final.

On Thursday, August 7, at 11 a.m., TCCC in partnership with the Bigfork / EOW AGE to age program will present a free musical workshop for all ages at the Edge Center for the Arts: Interlocking Rhythm with Emotion in Music. TCCC Cellist Magdalena Sas and Violinist Irina Mueller will present an engaging workshop for the young and the young at heart exploring the role of rhythm in music. Participants will learn fundamentals of rhythm through use of percussion instruments. After learning basic patterns, participants will join Magdalena and Irina as they perform a variety of works exploring how these rhythms are incorporated into music. The group will discuss how these different types of rhythms generate contrasting feelings in the music. Finally, participants will have a chance to apply what they learned about rhythm’s role in music by creating an emotions collage in response to a longer piece of music.
This event is FREE for all attendees and includes a light lunch following the workshop.
